Our Camino de Santiago Experience

Walking the Camino de Santiago is never a "typical" experience. It involves weeks of walking one of several routes stretching through various parts of Europe, eventually arriving in the Spanish city, Santiago de Compostela. Our route began in the South of France and took us along the route of St Jean. We walked for several days through the hilly north of Spain, marvelling at the beautiful countryside and cozy little towns and villages. Unfortunately, our knees couldn't endure and our walk took a detour to Portugal, where we took time to rest and recuperate. In our zippy little hire car, we explored the West Coast of Portugal, spending days (and nights) in beach towns like Nazare. We jumped into the hustle and bustle of busy Lisbon. We explored the castles of Sintra and stood on the most western point of Europe - Cabo da Roca. It wasn't how we expected our journey to go, but it was still an incredible experience and we'll eventually come back to the Camino some day!
